Comparison
A Free Strava Alternative for Training Insight
Strava is where most runners share their runs, and its free account does that well. The subscription adds the training side: fitness and freshness, deeper analysis and, with the Runna bundle, plans. If the training side is what you pay for, you may not need to. Here is how EverRun compares, and what Strava does that EverRun doesn't.
The short version
| EverRun | Strava | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free. No subscription, nothing paywalled. | Free account; subscription was $79.99 a year in July 2026, or about $149.99 with Runna. |
| Fitness, fatigue, form | CTL, ATL and TSB, included | Fitness & Freshness, for subscribers |
| Where your workouts come from | Apple Health on iPhone, Health Connect on Android | Its own recording, plus sync with most watches |
| Training plans | Goal-race plans built in, at no cost | Through the Runna bundle |
| Daily readiness | Readiness and recovery read, deload detection | Not its focus |
| Friends, clubs, segments | Not a social network | The heart of the product |

The training side, without the subscription
Strava's Fitness & Freshness chart and EverRun's fitness, fatigue and form chart rest on the same published idea: a long average of your training load, a short one, and the gap between them. EverRun works these out from the workouts on your phone and charts them next to a daily readiness read. Our CTL, ATL and TSB guide explains the numbers and has a taper calculator you can try without the app.
Plans and race goals
In EverRun you pick a goal race, or choose one from the directory of popular marathons and halves, and a periodised plan is built around the date. The race time predictor turns a recent result into a realistic goal, and the pace calculator turns that goal into training paces. Both work on the web with no sign-up.
Keep both if you like
You don't have to choose. Strava's free account keeps your friends, clubs and segments. EverRun reads the same workouts from Apple Health or Health Connect and does the training analysis. Neither needs the other.
Keep the Strava subscription if
- You use its routes, heatmaps and segment leaderboards every week.
- You follow a Runna plan and want it in the same app as your feed.
- You want one app that records, shares and analyses.
Try EverRun if
- You pay mainly to know whether you are getting fitter or just more tired.
- You want a plan for one goal race and a goal time you can trust.
- Your watch already saves workouts to Apple Health or Health Connect.
- You would rather keep your training analysis on your phone.
What EverRun doesn't do
- It does not sync with or import from Strava.
- It is not a social network: no feed, kudos or segments.
- It reads workouts your watch or phone has already saved to Apple Health or Health Connect.
